You can bet there is some legal reason for this change. Probably has to do with lawsuits over liability or some such. It all boils down to protecting their financial assets.

Thanks, Petra!
The way I see it, it's fine for the Borg to receive and distribute these boxes, provided (1) they give them out on the basis of need, not religious affiliation, (2) they are not paid as an organization to do so and then expect the "brothers" to do the actual work at their own expense, and (3) they do not even HINT that the recipient should donate to the Borg because of this "gift."
I would bet dollars to donuts that none of the above three conditions are true of the JW distribution system. In my experience, they don't do anything without a financial angle of some kind.

The article doesn't say so specifically, but it's entirely possible that those two employees are JWs. I don't often support the unnecessary stands that Witnesses take over seemingly trivial issues, but this is different. No one should be forced to wear emblems advocating causes they object to, whether it be LGBTQ or BLM or Democrat or Republican issues. I think work uniforms should be company-related and otherwise pretty much generic and neutral . If someone wants to advertise his affiliation with one cause or another, they should do so on their own time.
At the very least, employees should be allowed to cover emblems on a work uniform that they personally object to.

Curios and Curiouser

hector, sir—she shouldn’t be in the front seat with you—she’s unaccustomed to travel—and besides, an awkward turn could injure her.”.
the newly weaned saluki pup had been bred for cal hector by the most reputable kennel in kentucky.he paid cash in new bills and gathered her into his arms; then plopped her into the front seat of his vintage car.. the breeder had wagged his bony finger with disdain as he warned him.. “nonsense—do you think i’ve never owned an animal before?

Very interesting story, Terry, if a bit macabre. Note to self: Never, ever make Terry mad at you...
For what it's worth, I consider it on a par with Man from the South, a short story by Roald Dahl. My favorite version of that is a 1960 episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (Season 5, Episode 15), which starred Steve McQueen, Peter Lorre, and Neile Adams (McQueen's real life wife at the time). A classic, if ever there was one.
Anyway, thanks for the story. I hope I don't dream about it tonight...

Jw.Org: The modern day ''golden calf''

WT's arguments sound pretty darned arrogant to me.
"Don't listen to what God actually said! Let me tell you what he meant!"
"What is meant is what is implied, rather than that which is stated."

I recently bought the Blu-ray DVD of the movie Big Eyes. It's commonly known that Margaret Keane, the actual artist of the big eyes paintings, became a JW after moving to Hawaii. Their initial calling on her is portrayed in the movie, but it doesn't make a big deal out of it.
In the Special Features, Ms. Keane appears in a brief Q&A session. She seems very modest and gracious, and got a big laugh at the end when she made a great quip that tied in with the movie. I also noticed that she wore a bright blue "JWdotOrg" lapel pin throughout. Whatever...
In case you're wondering, I thought it was a pretty good movie and worth the time spent watching. The main premise is that her husband promoted her work as his own and almost completely dominated her. At first, she went along with it because "people don't care about women's art," and his tireless promotion made them millions. Later, she went public that she was the actual artist and her husband (or maybe ex-husband by that time) sued her. At the trial, the judge ended up having them both paint something for comparison and she clearly established that she was in fact the original artist.

stan livedeath: I am so sorry for the turmoil the WT caused in your family. It's downright shameful how people will allow religious leaders to dictate how they must treat relatives who dare to want to leave the JWs. I would be mortally embarrassed for anyone to know I'd never met my grandchildren or spoken to my adult children for years. Especially over something so stupid and ridiculous as a difference in religious beliefs.
